During the month of May, the class will be doing a novel study on Number the Stars, a Newberry Winning novel written by Lois Lowry. The novel is historical fiction set in Denmark during World War II. We will be doing research and activities to help learn more about World War II and the Holocaust. We will read children's Literature to help us understand the events that took place.
We will also make butterflies - a symbol of hope and freedom for many Jews during this time. Our butterflies will be combined with the other classes on a butterfly tree. When we finish the tree will have 1500 butterflies - each representing 1000 children that perished in the Holocaust.
