Course Descriptions

Health Education
Grade Placement: 9-10
Credit: 1/2

Provides an introduction to health facts which develop proper attitudes, establish practices and habits that will contribute to personal, family, and community health Required course for Texas graduation.

In this Physical Education class students are required to suit out daily in the following required uniforms: green gym shorts, a plain white T-shirt, and proper gym tennis shoes. Students are required to wear the the school issued physical education uniform during class. A charge of $10.00 pre semester must be paid by the student. If a student does not wear the school issued uniform, he/she will not receive credit for the course.

Foundations of Personal Fitness
Grade Placement: 9
Credit: 1/2

This is a state requirement for students taking P.E. as their state credit requirement. It is a textbook class (with lab work involved). Lab work is suiting out in the proper P.E. clothes, and doing the activities involved in conjunction with the textbook. Foundations is designed to allow the student to experience and become educated about the ABC's of a healthy, active, and fit life-style.
The following classes will fulfill the requirement for Foundations; Athletics, Band, Drill Team, ROTC, Cheerleading, Dance and Co-Op classes.

Lifetime Activities
Grade Placement: 9-12
Credit 1/2

Lilfetime activities are covered in this section. Some daily aerobic activities will also be involved. The emphasis will be on individual and lifetime sports. Example; racquet sports, archery, indoor / outdoor recreational activities and games, etc.
   

Intramural / Team Sports
Grade Placement: 9-12
Credit: 1/2
Prerequisite: Foundations of Personal Fitness

Intramural / Fitness for Life. Some daily aerobic activities will also be involved. Emphasis will be on team sports. Example: flag football, basketball, volleyball, softball, etc.
 


The following classes will fulfill all requirement for P.E.: athletics, band, drill team, ROTC, dance and advanced weight training, and beginning golf.
 
 

Advanced Weight Training and Fitness
Advanced Weight Training II
Grade Placement: 9-12
Credit: 1/2 - 1 each

An adequate knowledge of weight training required. Students must have the desire to excel and gain strength. Students will be tested every six weeks for strength gain.
 
 

Beginning Golf for Boys
Beginning Golf for Girls

Grade Placement: 9-12
Credit: 1
Fee: $50 per semester

A course designed to take players with novice ability and improve their game in order for them to make the Brenham High School Golf Team. All participants must pay a fifty dollar driving range fee and have their own set of clubs. This class is open to only fifteen students.
 
 

Athletics
Grade Placement: 9-12
Credit: 1/2 - 1
Prerequisite: Coach's approval

Designed to enable students who have a desire and ability to excel through competition in sports activities. Both college and non college bound students are urged to participate in the events in which he/she might excel. Many of the participants have been able to further their education through their participation in our athletic program.

Cheerleading

Credit: 1/2 - 1
Prerequisite: Tryouts

This class is designed for students who are members of the cheer leading squad. It will include aerobics, leadership skills, some gymnastics, and preparation for upcoming events.
 
 

Belles Dance Team
Grade Placement: 9-12
Credit: 1/2 -1
Prerequisite: Tryout

A performing group of dancers.These girls perform at school activities and community events. Placement of students in Belles Dance Team requires an audition, which is held in the spring.
