The 20 Design Portfolio is inteded to address a very broad interpretation of 20 design issues. 20 design involves purposeful decision-making about how to use the elements and principles of art in an integrative way. The elements of design are like a palette of possibilties that artists use to express themselves: line, shape, illusion of motion, pattern and texture, value and picture plane in order to communicate content. These principles include unity/variety, balance / emphasis / rhythm, and proportion / scale.
For the portfolio, students are
asked to
demonstrate proficiency in 20 design using a variety of art form. These
could
include, but are not limited to, graphic design typography, digital
imaging,
photography, collage, fabric design, weaving, illustration, painting,
printmaking,
etc. A variety of approaches to representation, abstraction, and
expression
may be part of the student's portfolio.
