Course Descriptions Grade Placement: 9-12 1/2 credit Comprehensive basic course to introduce beginning students to global agriculture. Career development of agricultural leadership, communications & personal finance are discussed. Grade Placement: 9-12 1/2 credit Comprehensive basic applied course to enhance Agriculture comprehension of beginning students. Topics include soils, plants, animals, agricultural construction, food science, and leadership. Grade Placement: 9-12 1/2 credit Examines importance of wildlife & outdoor recreation; emphasis on using wildlife natural resources. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A classroom/laboratory-oriented course designed to address the concepts and skills related to environmental technology. Instruction will include components of the environment; renewable and non-renewable resources; stewardship of the environment; abuse of natural resources; environmental laws, legislation, and regulations; environmental ethics, responsibility and education; and implications of restoration and conservation practices. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A course designed to provide the student with a clear understanding of the scope of aquaculture production and the existing career opportunities. A study of aquatic plants and animals, water management, production techniques, and management and marketing skills provide a thorough basis for future studies. Grade Placement: 11-12 1 credit A laboratory-oriented course designed to introduce the concepts and skills related to the production of aquacultural crops. The course emphasizes the study and development of skills in the importance of aquaculture, safety practices related to aquaculture, classification and identification of plant and animal aquaculture species, determination of optimum growth and health of species-specific, analysis of water, planning and designing aquacultural facilities, harvesting of aquacrops, processing of species-specific aquacrops, and the marketing of aquacultural products. Instruction will include information on career opportunities, leadership activities, and record-keeping practices related to the industry. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A course designed to introduce basic theory and specialized skills in agricultural mechanics. Skills to be developed included tool identification and safe use, carpentry, electricity, plumbing, masonry, fence building, painting, metal working, and welding. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A course designed to develop appropriate spoken, written, and visual communication techniques and procedures. Students will learn the basic skills in writing and delivering speeches and other presentations. The use of new technologies used in presentations is included in the curriculum. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A course designed to provide the acquisition of skills and knowledge needed to improve and maintain the urban or rural home and adjacent buildings, including the analysis of repair needs and use of approved safety techniques. Prepares students to improve and maintain the home. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A course preparing students to maintain, evaluate, design and build agricultural structures using approved construction techniques. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A course to develop skills in metal equipment assembly and joining processes by welding, oxyacetylene cutting and oxyacetylene welding. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A course designed to develop skills in selection, operation, and maintenance of small air-cooled engines, multi-cylinder engines, hydraulic motors, electric motors, and agricultural machinery and tractors. Grade Placement: 11-12 1 credit A laboratory-oriented course designed to introduce the scientific principles and concepts and skill development necessary in agricultural mechanics. The course emphasizes soil and water conservation; electrification; concrete and masonry construction; building planning and construction; small engine and agricultural equipment maintenance and repair; and oxyfuel and electric cutting and welding. Instruction will include information on career opportunities, leadership activities, and record keeping practices related to the industry. Grade Placement: 11-12 1 credit Prerequisite: Agricultural Mechanics I An advance laboratory-oriented course designed to further the scientific principles, concepts, and skill developments taught in Agricultural Mechanics I. The course emphasize soil and water conservation , electrification, concrete and masonry construction, building planning and construction, small engine and agricultural equipment maintenance and repair, and oxyfuel and electric cutting and welding. Instruction will include information on career opportunities, leadership activities, and record keeping practices related to the industry. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit Includes principles of animal & plant production & management of soils as related to agriculture. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit Develops knowledge & skills pertaining to nutrition, reproduction, health & management of domestic animals. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A technical course designed to develop knowledge and skills pertaining to the selection, nutrition, reproduction, health, and management of horses. Grade Placement: 11-12 1/2 credit A course designed to examine the interrelatedness of human , scientific, and technological dimensions of livestock production. Instruction is designed to expand one's knowledge of the scientific and technological dimensions of resources necessary for animal production. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A cluster course designed as an introduction to and overview of horticulture sciences with emphasis on technical skills, entrepreneurship. and career opportunities. Special emphasis is placed on production, facilities design, management and marketing of horticulture products and services. Grade Placement: 9-12 1/2-1 credit Horticultural Plant Production is a classroom/laboratory oriented course designed to address skills related to the producaiton of seasonal vetetable and greenhouse plants. Preparation for careers in the field of horticulture will also be of key interest. Plant identification, tool and equipment identification, along with safe use should be mastered. Students will take part in seeding, propagating, fertilizing, composting and management of horticultural plants. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit Designed to introduce the students to agribusiness management in the free enterprise system. It includes a study of economic principles of budgeting, record keeping, finance, risk management, business law, marketing and careers in agribusiness. Grade Placement: 10-12 1/2 credit A comprehensive technical course designed to develop agricultural leadership, citizenship, and corporation including such topics as personal leadership, citizenship, and corporation including such topics as personal development, employer/employee relations, and group and interpersonal communication skills. Agricultural science and technology involves interacting systems which include agribusiness marketing and management, natural resources, production of food and agricultural services. Students will be taught the importance of personal skills and how they affect each of these areas. |
