PRACTICAL
WRITING

Emphasis will be on
the fundamentals of writing especially those associated with
communication
in the work place. Students will develop the skills needed to compose
business
letters that communicate effectively, as well as those skills that are
required to increase the productivity of the work place. Counts as
a
fourth English credit for minimum plan only.

English I Pre-AP is designed to prepare students for the English
Advance
Placement Exam given at the senior level. This course includes

independent reading and research in all genres of world literature,

of critical thinking skills, and the use of the writing process to

various forms of discourse for a variety of audiences and purposes. Students
must be prepared to devote considerable time to independent readings
and
outside research projects.

Pre-AP
is designed to prepare students for the English Advance Placement Exam

English III PreAp is designed for the serious student of English who
plans
to attend a four-year university and to take English IV AP.The
curriculum
includes composition and research skills with a continued emphasis on
outside reading and vocabulary building. Strong attention will be given
to the development of composition skills necessary to pass an AP
exam.
Literary emphasis is on American authors, culture, and ideas. Students
must be prepared to devote considerable hours to independent readings
and
outside projects.

IV Advanced Placement

English IV AP is designed to provide college level studies and is
designed
for students with an above average ability in English III who are
planning
to enter a four-year university upon high school graduation. Students
will
read and analyze British literary works in class and will read widely
outside
class. The instruction provides the students with sophisticated
techniques
for success in writing on a college level. The students will have the
opportunity
to take the Advanced Placement exam for literature/composition at the
end
of the course.

Language & Composition

English AP Language
& Composition is designed as an elective course to provide college
bound students an opportunity to prepare for the AP Language &
Composition
exam. This course is designed to engage students in becoming skilled
readers
of prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical
contents.
The students will have the opportunity to take the Advanced Placement
exam
for English Language & Composition at the end of the course.

schedule.
Students' tuition is free, but participants must prepared to purchase

British Literature
continues the emphasis on writing in response to literature, vocabulary
acquisition, and development of critical thinking skills and reading
comprehension
through literary analysis. This course is offered in conjunction with
Blinn
College freshman-level English 1301-1302. Students enrolling must be
highly
self-motivated and should possess an eagerness to investigate the
nature
of our language and literature as it has developed in England during
the
last fifteen hundred years. Course requirement includes two literary
research
papers and outside reading of several representative novels, plays, and
poetry collections. Additional summer reading is suggested. Blinn
tuition
and fees are applicable.

ESOL I, II

ESOL - This course is designed only for immigrant students who have a primary language other than English. Two courses may take the place of regular English.
Reading
180
1 credit
Prerequisite: ARD
and LPAC Committee
Read 180 is a state
elective class that offers a combination of instructional, modeled, and
independent reading instruction for secondary students with reading
difficulties.
The class provides computer assisted instruction, small group
instruction
provided by a secondary reading specialist, and independent reading
from
a wide variety of genres. Reading 180 does not satisfy any of the
English
class requirements.
