“Leadership is NOT a position or a title, it IS an action and an example!!”

It is with great excitement that I join Cub Nation and introduce myself to the Brenham community as the new superintendent of schools for the Brenham Independent School District. Brenham ISD has a tradition of excellence and is truly one of the finest districts in Texas. It is my desire to build on the strong foundation that exists and to use my talents and work ethic to continue to meet the needs of the students and families of Brenham ISD and the Brenham community.

I grew up in Stephenville, Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise and Sports Studies and a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Tarleton State University. In 2018, I earned a Doctor of Education Degree from Lamar University. My wife, Anita, is currently an elementary teacher working with 1st grade students in Sealy ISD. Anita and I have two daughters, Alexa and Cate. Alexa is a PreK teacher with Fort Bend ISD and Cate is in her senior year at Texas A&M pursuing a degree in Human Resources. I have been in education for 25 years as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, campus principal, and superintendent.

I started my career in education as an American History teacher. Together with my students, we explored the ideas and philosophies of leaders that had a tremendous vision for the future as well as the ability to apply that vision to the world around them. My students and I discovered from the actions of leaders throughout history that in order to look forward you must expand the lens you are presently looking through. As a leader, I work to build capacity in those around me and seek their perspective in the decision making process. I believe in the statement “the smartest person in the room is the collective intelligence of the room”.  As educators, we are charged with too large of a task to think we can make decisions in isolation. By developing skills in our students like creativity, collaboration, and the ability to reason, Brenham graduates will enter the world with the tools necessary to be successful in any field they choose.

I understand the importance a school plays in the identity of a community and the challenge of bringing the world to students so they are prepared for their future without sacrificing the values and sense of belonging that is prevalent within a community. My wife and I are excited about being part of the Brenham community. I look forward to strengthening relationships with students, parents, and community members in an effort to continually improve the education of the students of Brenham ISD.

Thank you for your continued support of the students of Brenham ISD!
