Meet the Brenham ISD Communications and Community Services team!

Veronica Johannsen, Dir. of Communications & Special Events

Veronica Johannsen is an education advocate, leader, and communications professional. Veronica previously served the San Antonio community as the communications director for the Office of Councilman Manny Pelaez and the communication specialist at the Alamo Area Council of Governments before joining the Brenham ISD team.

Her passion for storytelling started nearly 10 years ago when she began her career in journalism. During her time as a bilingual broadcast journalist, she covered some of the biggest stories out of the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio, TX on a local and national level. Her experience in and out of the field transformed her and has shaped her to become a strong voice for education and a dedicated advocate for Brenham ISD. "I am thrilled to be a part of the Cub Nation family, and can't wait to start sharing the stories of the Brenham ISD students," said Veronica Johannsen.

Growing up a first-generation high school and college graduate, Veronica has made it her business to work within education. "This role is very personal to me as I know firsthand the power that education has in changing someone's life. I believe that all children no matter what zip code or demographic they belong to -- all children deserve the opportunity to have the tools to learn, thrive, and grow."

During her free time, Veronica enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her dog Horchata. She loves to learn new skills, travel, and check out new restaurants.

Karem Chandler, F.A.M.E Liaison

Karem Chandler is a proud and happy wife to a wonderful man, and a mother to two exceptional children, Mauricio and Camila. During her 20 years in education, she has been privileged to serve students with special needs, students learning English as their second language, teachers, programs and parents. Karem recently joined the Brenham Independent School District as a parent liaison for the district and community under the title of F.A.M.E. (Families Actively and Meaningfully Engaged) Liaison. She is excited to help parents and our community get involved in the education of our children!

Georgiane Gessner, Community Services Associate

Georgiane Gessner is a Brenham native and proud member of the Brenham community. She attended every school within the Brenham Independent School District, and takes great pride in being a Brenham Cub! Georgiane and her husband, Martin Gessner Jr., were born and raised in Brenham, and have three children following in their parents’ footsteps by attending Brenham public schools. Although most of Georgiane’s career background is in the medical industry, she is passionate about serving her community and thrilled to be a part of Brenham ISD. Georgiane has been an active volunteer in Brenham public schools since 2014, and loves to help others learn and develop skills to achieve their goals.
