Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!

Today is a Great Day to be a Cub!

It's hard to believe that the summer is nearing a memorable end, and the first day of school is right around the corner! Contrary to popular belief, the school district does not shut down for summer vacation. We have been busy all summer reviewing student performance data, attending professional development, setting strategic goals, and hiring outstanding teachers and support staff to greet our students on the first day of school! On Wednesday, August 16, we look forward to welcoming nearly 5,000 students on an educational journey that will prepare them for a lifetime of learning, adventure, and success.

We have so much to be thankful for in Brenham! We have a supportive and engaged community, a committed board of education, dedicated teachers and support staff, strong and visionary leadership, and the most brilliant and talented students in the state. We are excited about what the 2017-2018 school year will bring. We are focused on many promising new initiatives and priorities.

On Monday August 7 at 6:00 p.m. we will officially dedicate and open our newest BISD campus, the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC). This campus has been designated as the Pre-K center for our newest Cubs & Cubettes. Mrs. Toni Schwartz is the principal of this campus. A special thanks to our business partners for your generous financial support of the renovation of this campus!

In addition to the opening of the ECLC campus, we would like to share with our stakeholders our district priorities for the coming school year:

Priority 1: The district will develop a task force to study Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academies and how BISD may be develop and implement a program during the 2018-2019 school year.

Priority 2: Improve learning for all while closing the achievement gaps between demographic subgroups.

Priority 3: Implement systems to address the specific learning needs of students identified as ELL (English Language Learner), Bilingual, ESL (English as a Second Language), Special Education, and also develop a newcomer program for incoming students.

Priority 4: Implement systems that provide increased student access to Gifted & Talented, Advanced Placement, and Dual Credit programs.

Priority 5: Strengthen the Brenham brand through a positive culture of high expectations, achievement, innovation, communication, and family atmosphere.

Priority 6: Appropriate and monitor the district budget and make adjustments that guarantee a positive impact on student safety, learning, teaching, and facilities.

As a district family, we will continue to work together and focus on a district-wide culture of pursuing greatness. Research asserts that high performing districts possess a strong and cohesive family culture - one that everyone can experience. This year we will continue with our theme of One Brenham, Better Together! Now, more than ever before, public education needs the support from all who believe in our mission to create a well-educated public citizenry. The future of our state's economy and local community is dependent upon a strong, vibrant, and innovative public school system. We appreciate your continued support of Brenham ISD, and we look forward to continued partnerships to make our community and school district the pride of Texas!

Go Cubs!
