Wrapping up a successful and busy fall semester!
12/18/2017

Today is a great day to be a Cub!

I am happy to share that we have had a successful and busy fall semester! Our students are completing final exams and benchmark assessments, and bringing closure to a semester that has been fun-filled with competitive sports, band and choir competitions, Hour of Code, Geek Week professional development, High School Nation Tour, Christmas programs, and many other exciting opportunities for our students. We will soon take a break from all the learning and sharing to spend time some much needed time with our families and friends.

The Christmas holidays are right around the corner, and I hope that each of us will take a few moments to pause and reflect on the true meaning of the Christmas season. Many of us recognize this as a time of peace on Earth, goodwill toward men, and giving gifts. Let us not forget that we have already been blessed with so many gifts for which to be thankful. We live in a strong and vibrant town with a thriving local economy. We work in a high-performing, award-winning school district that educates nearly 5,000 students and employs over 700 staff members. We also have many friends and neighbors who share our values of faith, family and community togetherness.

As professional educators, we are challenged with so much more than simply teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic. We are tasked with teaching our students how to become civically engaged, successful, and productive citizens who take pride in their community, and desire to preserve the tenets and values of American culture. I believe we owe it to our children to pass on our core values. I also believe we owe it to our community and to the future of Brenham to teach, model, and reinforce the values that make our community such a desirable place for young families to plant their roots.

This Christmas, I trust that you will take a few moments to give thanks for the ONE true gift, and share some of your blessings with the less fortunate. Thank you, Brenham and Brenham ISD, for being a caring and wonderful community and school district. Your commitment to preparing the hearts and minds of our future is greatly appreciated, and has not gone unnoticed. We look forward to seeing you all very soon in January 2018.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
