Board allocates funds received from SB500 for district updates

Dear Cub Nation,

Today is a great day to be a Cub! The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees met with district administration on Tuesday, November 5 to discuss Senate Bill 500 from the 85th Legislative Session. This bill allocated funds to districts across the state that experienced drops in property values due to Hurricane Harvey. The Brenham ISD board of trustees approved funds in the amount of $555,940 at the regularly scheduled meeting in October. On Tuesday the board discussed how to best use the funds to update district infrastructure and support teaching and learning. Some of the projects that will be funded with this money include:

  • Instructional materials for teachers
  • Additional safety and security for campuses throughout the district
  • Master facility plan to be used as a 10-year blueprint for district planning
  • Replace existing roof at the technology office
  • Update library carpet at Brenham High School
  • Update Brenham High School competitive gym flooring
  • Outside water fountains at Alton Elementary School and Brenham Middle School
  • Playground equipment for Brenham Middle School
  • Additional band instruments and music stands
  • Additional classroom desks and science lab tables
  • Additional chairs for the BJH cafeteria

District administration and the board of trustees remain committed to ensuring that students, teachers, and campuses continue to receive the necessary materials to offer the best quality education in our district. District administration will update the board at their regular meetings on the progress of the plans to use these funds. We appreciate the board of trustees for their vision and support of the district in using these funds to improve the systems within our district. Great things continue to happen here!

Thank you,

Dr. Walter Jackson
