Brenham ISD board of trustees approves new director of communications and special projects

In a regularly scheduled meeting on June 15, the Brenham ISD board of trustees unanimously approved the hiring of Veronica Johannsen as the director of communications and special projects for the district. Johannsen is an education advocate, leader, and communications professional. Johannsen previously served the San Antonio community as the communications director for the Office of Councilman Manny Pelaez and the communication specialist at the Alamo Area Council of Governments before joining the Brenham ISD team.

Johannsen’s passion for storytelling started nearly 10 years ago when she began her career in journalism. During her time as a bilingual broadcast journalist, she covered some of the biggest stories out of the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio, TX on a local and national level. Her experience in and out of the field transformed her and has shaped her to become a strong voice for education and a dedicated advocate for Brenham ISD. "I am thrilled to be a part of the Cub Nation family, and can't wait to start sharing the district’s stories," said Johannsen.

Growing up as a first-generation high school and college graduate, Johannsen has made it her business to work within education. "This role is very personal to me as I know firsthand the power that education has in changing someone's life,” she said. “I believe that all children, no matter their zip code or demographic, deserve the opportunity to have the tools to learn, thrive, and grow."

Johannsen will begin her employment with Brenham ISD on July 6 and is replacing Jessica Johnston who has accepted a new opportunity in the private sector.
