Silent Panic Alert Technology (SPAT)
Beginning with the 2025 / 2026 school year, Brenham ISD will implement Silent Panic Alert Technology (SPAT) in every classroom and front office to comply with Texas Senate Bill 838, also known as Alyssa’s Law. The red SPAT button, mounted near each classroom phone, provides instant, silent access to 911 emergency dispatch, district leadership, and campus administrators. With a single press and confirmation, responders are alerted immediately with the classroom’s location, ensuring fast and coordinated assistance during active threats, violence, or serious medical emergencies.

The SPAT system may be activated by anyone present in the room during an emergency, including staff, substitutes, students, and visitors. Because misuse triggers a full-scale law enforcement and emergency response, it carries serious disciplinary and legal consequences and should only be used for true emergencies. SPAT will be reviewed annually as part of the district’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP) safety training, reinforcing Brenham ISD’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students and staff.
