BISD Special Olympics Unified Basketball team brings home gold medal
03/04/2019

Last weekend the Brenham ISD Special Olympics Unified Basketball team earned a gold medal at the Area Basketball competition in Livingston.

“This team has done an amazing job joining together as a family and helping each other be successful,” said Brenham ISD Special Olympics coordinator Angela Moore. “Our Unified partners have supported the athletes to gain self confidence in all they do. This has been an amazing journey for all of us!”

Special Olympics Unified Sports teams are made up of people of similar age and ability with and without intellectual disabilities. This concept was inspired by the idea that training together and playing together can build both friendship and understanding.

Although the team is already planning for next year's basketball season, they have turned their immediate focus to the track season and their Unified 4x100 relay team.
