Project SEARCH celebrates 100% employment rate

Great news for Baylor Scott & White Project SEARCH! We have 100% employment! For the last nine months, our interns have been working diligently in different departments throughout the hospital learning transferable skills like stocking, taking inventory, working with co-workers and managers, checking expiration dates, following hospital rules and regulations, managing security codes, and communication skills. Our six interns worked in supply chain, environmental services, the lab, outpatient, sports medicine and therapy services, sterile processing and the cafeteria. This year alone, we have checked approximately 50,000 items for expiration dates and moved approximately 88,000 pounds of linen!

We congratulate this year's interns on their employment! Brittani is working at Chili's, An is working at Baylor Scott & White, Gavin is working at Barking Ranch Pet Resort, Cade is working at Blue Bell Creameries, Cole is working at Weikel's Bakery, and Derron is working at Home Depot.

The public is invited to attend the graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Baylor Scott & White Education Room.

“Baylor Scott & White Healthcare has been a remarkable host business,” said Project SEARCH coordinator Sharon Machac. “The collaboration between Baylor Scott & White, Brenham Independent School District, Texas Workforce and The Whole Solution have proven to be a successful team for our interns at Baylor Scott & White Project SEARCH.”

Leslie Villere, Director of Special Education in Brenham ISD, implemented Project SEARCH in 2014 through a grant from Texas Tech University and Project SEARCH. Since then, 22 students have graduated from the program, and 18 are working in our community. Project SEARCH is an international program that serves over 500 sites in 8 countries.
