Brenham ISD board of trustees selected as TASA Region 6 Board of the Year

Each year, superintendents of public schools have the opportunity to nominate their district school board for the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) School Board of the Year (SBOY) recognition program. TASA created this program in 1971 to recognize school boards whose dedication and ethical service have made a positive impact on the school children of Texas and their communities.

Brenham ISD is pleased to announce the selection of our board of trustees as the recipient of the Region 6 2018 School Board of the Year. The Brenham ISD board of trustees will now move on to the state level as the Region 6 SBOY representative. Region 6 Education Service Center Field Service Agent John Conley said, “Congratulations to Dr. Walter Jackson, the Brenham ISD board of trustees, and the entire community on this recognition! Region 6 is honored to have Brenham ISD represent all school boards in the region.”

The Brenham ISD board of trustees has worked together to address challenges, build support, and successfully accomplish a complete leadership transformation. In the past four years, the board has developed and implemented a 5 year strategic plan for the district, hired a new superintendent, approved a plan for district of innovation, adopted new board protocols for better collaboration with the superintendent, adopted several public education advocacy resolutions, and charted a new course of district marketing, communication and outreach to the Brenham community.

Board President Natalie Lange stated “Our board is humbled by this recognition. It is an honor that we share with this entire community and all employees and students at Brenham ISD; however, we believe there is no “Board of the Year” without the superintendent. Dr. Jackson has taken this community’s vision for what we knew this district could be and put us on the path to success. We will continue to strive for improvement and focus on doing what is best for students.”

Board Vice President Melvin Ehlert, who has been on the board since 2001, stated “The collaboration between our board, superintendent, teachers and administrative team continues to build upon the excellence that this district is accustomed to. I am proud to be a part of the great things happening in Brenham ISD.”

Wishing each of you a happy and safe Independence Day, and I look forward to seeing you around the community. It's a great day to be a Cub!

Walter Jackson, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools
