Brenham ISD prepares for another exciting academic year!

Today is a great day to be a Cub!

I hope that you are having an enjoyable and relaxing summer. In just a few short weeks, Brenham ISD staff will return for another exciting academic year filled with learning and positive experiences for our students and community. Our principals and human resources staff are busy filling the last few positions to be ready to welcome back nearly 5,000 students to our district on August 16.

This year’s district theme is Brenham United! We selected this theme because our district is only as strong as the collective greatness that we all continue to work towards. Our goal will always be to promote unity, a family culture, and togetherness within our Cub Nation. I trust that you will join me in driving home our unity theme to our students, parents, and entire community! You will soon begin to see marketing and branding of our new theme throughout the community.

Last night at our regular board meeting, our board of trustees approved a 2.5% at the midpoint level cost of living increase for all staff. We publicly thank and appreciate the board for always acting on our behalf to show their appreciation and support for the work that we do for students everyday. We will continue to seek ways to offer the most competitive salary and benefits increases that we can afford.

Lastly, as you know, the safety and security of our students and staff members will always be our number one priority. At our board of trustees meeting last night, the board was presented with a list of safety protocols that we plan to implement to make certain that our students and staff are safe while at school. The safety committee will continue to meet throughout the year to review, update and make further recommendations to the board. Listed below are the recommendations that the board approved:

  • Increase armed security (SRO's) on campuses
  • Add safety vestibules at front entrances to ECLC, KES, BJH, and BHS
  • Install additional security cameras
  • Investigate and purchase barricades to secure classroom doors
  • Develop procedures for keeping all exterior doors locked
  • Require all classroom doors remain locked during instructional hours
  • Require all staff members and secondary students to wear IDs at all times
  • Increase safety audits and emergency drills on all campuses
  • Improve and strengthen Raptor visitor check-in system and procedures
  • Implement Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) national program at elementary campuses
  • Establish new coordinator role to support students with social/emotional issues
  • Implement CrisisGo bullying and suspicious behavior reporting tool
  • Implement BARK for Schools to monitor BISD Google online accounts
  • Hold public meetings to update the community on safety and security Communicate clearly and frequently with students and parents about expectations for safety and security

Be sure to say hello when you see me out and about town! I look forward to seeing you back on campus soon!Have a great rest of your summer!
